Artist Danh Vo’s new exhibition We The People is on view now from the Public Art Fund at the Brooklyn Bridge Park and City Hall Park.  Vo has recreated full scale replicas of the Statue of Liberty in individual segments that are not intended to be pieced together and are on view throughout the two parks.  Read more about the exhibition: https://www.publicartfund.org/view/exhibitions/6042_danh_vo_we_the_people

The opening last week was in the perfect location on a hill on Pier 3 at Brooklyn Bridge Park, with the central piece being a fragment of Lady Liberty’s sleeve overlooking the Manhattan skyline and many sites including the Statue of Liberty herself in whole. And it took place on a perfect evening after morning showers and some brief sun had evolved into a dreamy fog settling over Manhattan.

One of my best friends has never really been happy with me taking photos of her – we’re talking for the last 16 years or so… until her baby Willa came along.

Instagram = fleeting photos;

I have fallen hard for Instagram ~ in a photographer’s world of large photo files and overshooting and working with tons of photos every day, it’s allowed me a place to quickly document the small moments in a day that give me pause. And in New York, those moments happen all the time.

But not many people these days have the patience to go through a person’s entire feed of photos – you discover someone on Instagram and you probably scroll through a few pages of their most recent photos. Someone’s beautiful photo taken a year ago stays hidden to most. So there is a sense of impermanence.  And one thing that often gets lost in the speed of the mobile photography — letting a photo stay with you, re-visiting that photo that moved you to understand why you clicked ♡like, or to take a photo of that moment.

The city, too, is full of fleeting moments – fast paced with movements and a rhythm that creates a symphony all around us.

I have to share some of my favorites from this family portrait session ~ we’d been watching the weather all week to set a time to avoid a summer thunderstorm, but instead it started raining right when I arrived…  turns out that a little rain makes for some very fun family photos!

On Friday March 15, 2013, friends and neighbors helped plan one last Block Party at 4 Downing Street and an after-party to raise funds to help artist Arthur Wood, 81, find a new home.  He is being foreclosed on after almost 30 years in his home and his work of art, the Broken Angel, a Brooklyn landmark.  The community came out to show their support and celebrate art.

On this freezing cold February afternoon, I am daydreaming of warmer weather, and my mind keeps wandering up the street to Prospect Park.
So this seems the perfect day to share the photos Claudio and I took at C.C. and Vanessa’s wedding on one of the hottest days of the summer in July.
The forecast warned of 100 degree weather that morning and the park was close to empty, which added to the perfect dreaminess of the day – a beautiful ceremony under a tree overlooking the park. picnic baskets. deliciousness from Porchetta. vegemite. friends & family sing-a-longs. cornhole tosses and bocce games. baseballs and beach balls. kite-flying. bubbles. gold shoes to bring good luck and fortune in the year of the dragon.
By late afternoon, the few people far away in the park were drawn towards the wedding hillside by the music of the Red Hook Ramblers, and everyone danced into the evening.
